Wizard's First Rule

Right now I am listening to the audiobook of Wizard's First Rule by Terry Goodkind. If you have watched the TV Show Legend of the Seeker - the show is based on this series of books. WFR is the first in the series.
My Sweetie has read all the books, which is why we started watching the show, and has been bugging me to try them. I finally relented and got an audio copy from the library. It was hard to pay attention at first, Goodkind goes into a TON of descriptives which I find slightly boring. In fact, i almost gave up on it after getting to Chapter 7. Sweetie told me I hadn't even reached the good stuff yet!
The show does not have any of the same main story themes as the book does so it's like seeing the characters do extra things. The show just adds to the books.
Since deciding to continue listening, I am finding I want to hear/read more and more of the book. The dynamic relationship between Richard and Kaylin is MUCH more developed in the story - and even though I know more than I should about certain things I am finding myself wondering what the outcome will be!
So, my Twilight Saga Audiobooks are still sealed and sitting on my bookshelf. I promised my Sweetie i would tackle this first before he added those to iTunes. I think he's sort of holding them captive actually lol
So Edward and Bella will have to wait for me to travel to Forks in my mind again.

RIP Farrah - Goodbye Michael Jackson

This morning Farrah Fawcett lost her battle with anal cancer. She documented quite a bit of her journey. I watched a two hour long special a few months ago. She was very vulnerable and open with her struggles, her pain, and even allowed the cameras in when her doctor told her that he cancer returned.
Now she is pain free and hopefully at peace.

Michael Jackson. MJ. The King of Pop. I actually thought that hearing he died was just a fake report, especially since drama always seemed to follow him. Regardless of his personal life, he really did give a lot to music.
I will never forget listening to Thriller album over and over again on our record player. I also remember MTV showing his video - one of the first that had a plot to it I believe. i think Thriller has to be one of the best songs of all time and definitely one of the best videos of all time.
Thank you for your imagination and your gift to the music world that still has an impact on so many artists. May you find peace where ever you are now
Pixar Steps "Up" and Grants a Girl's Dying Wish
This story is sad but also uplifting.
A round of applause for Pixar and many, may prayers to Colby's family.
HUNTINGTON BEACH – Colby Curtin, a 10-year-old with a rare form of cancer, was staying alive for one thing – a movie.
From the minute Colby saw the previews to the Disney-Pixar movie Up, she was desperate to see it. Colby had been diagnosed with vascular cancer about three years ago, said her mother, Lisa Curtin, and at the beginning of this month it became apparent that she would die soon and was too ill to be moved to a theater to see the film.
After a family friend made frantic calls to Pixar to help grant Colby her dying wish, Pixar came to the rescue.
The company flew an employee with a DVD of Up, which is only in theaters, to the Curtins’ Huntington Beach home on June 10 for a private viewing of the movie.
The animated movie begins with scenes showing the evolution of a relationship between a husband and wife. After losing his wife in old age, the now grumpy man deals with his loss by attaching thousands of balloons to his house, flying into the sky, and going on an adventure with a little boy.
Colby died about seven hours after seeing the film.
With her daughter’s vigil planned for Friday, Lisa Curtin reflected about how grateful she is that Pixar – and "Up" – were a part of her only child’s last day.
“When I watched it, I had really no idea about the content of the theme of the movie,” said Curtin, 46. “I just know that word ‘Up’ and all of the balloons and I swear to you, for me it meant that (Colby) was going to go up. Up to heaven.”
Pixar officials declined to comment on the story or name the employees involved.
THE PREVIEWS
Colby was diagnosed with vascular cancer on Dec. 23, 2005 after doctors found a tumor in her liver. At the time of her death, her stomach was about 94 inches around, swollen with fluids the cancer wouldn’t let her body properly digest. The rest of her body probably weighed about 45 pounds, family friend Carole Lynch said.
Colby had gone to Newport Elementary School and was known for making others laugh, family friend Terrell Orum-Moore said. Colby loved to dance, sing, swim and seemed to have a more mature understanding of the world than other children her age, Orum-Moore said.
On April 28, Colby went to see the Dream Works 3-D movie "Monsters Vs. Aliens" but was impressed by the previews to "Up."
“It was from then on, she said, ‘I have to see that movie. It is so cool,’” Lynch said.
Colby was a movie fan, Lisa Curtin said, and she latched onto Pixar’s movies because she loved animals.
Two days later Colby’s health began to worsen. On June 4 her mother asked a hospice company to bring a wheelchair for Colby so she could visit a theater to see "Up." However, the weekend went by and the wheelchair was not delivered, Lisa Curtin said.
By June 9, Colby could no longer be transported to a theater and her family feared she would die without having seen the movie.
At that point, Orum-Moore, who desperately wanted Colby to get her last wish, began to cold-call Pixar and Disney to see if someone could help.
Pixar has an automated telephone answering system, Orum-Moore said, and unless she had a name of a specific person she wanted to speak to, she could not get through. Orum-Moore guessed a name and the computer system transferred her to someone who could help, she said.
Pixar officials listened to Colby’s story and agreed to send someone to Colby’s house the next day with a DVD of "Up," Orum-Moore recalled.
She immediately called Lisa Curtin, who told Colby.
“Do you think you can hang on?” Colby’s mother said.
“I’m ready (to die), but I’m going to wait for the movie,” the girl replied.
THE MOVIE
At about 12:30 p.m. the Pixar employee came to the Curtins’ home with the DVD.
He had a bag of stuffed animals of characters in the movie and a movie poster. He shared some quirky background details of the movie and the group settled in to watch Up.
Colby couldn't see the screen because the pain kept her eyes closed so her mother gave her a play-by-play of the film.
At the end of the film, the mother asked if her daughter enjoyed the movie and Colby nodded yes, Lisa Curtin said.
The employee left after the movie, taking the DVD with him, Lynch said.
“He couldn’t have been nicer,” said Lynch who watched the movie with the family. “His eyes were just welled up.”
After the movie, Colby’s dad, Michael Curtin, who is divorced from Lisa Curtin, came to visit.
Colby died with her mom and dad nearby at 9:20 p.m.
Among the Up memorabilia the employee gave Colby was an “adventure book” – a scrap book the main character’s wife used to chronicle her journeys.
“I’ll have to fill those adventures in for her,” Lisa Curtin said.

Passion
Today I realized that writing is one of my passions. When I was younger I wrote fictional stories. In fact i remember one clearly that I wrote in 6th grade. I happened upon it years and years ago and when I read it I was surprised at how good the plot was and how well I developed the story at 12 years old! Being someone with a degree in journalism, I always thought I was meant to write "nothing but the facts" or maybe an editorial. Right before graduation, I realized that was not my passion at all, it was not something I wanted to pursue in the least (not to mention the pay is well...crappy). I could take crappy pay for a job I loved, but not for one I had no desire to put myself into.
After reading the Twilight Series, I somehow came up with an idea for a story. (no it does not involve vampires or supernatural creatures HA!) I started to write one afternoon and i couldn't stop! In fact, I haven't be able to stop since I started.
This summer has been a busy one for all of us. But I often find myself making notes on my iPhone notepad listing new ideas that pop into my head while doing housework, out shopping, or watching K's swim lessons. And when I do have spare time, I am usually writing, editing or re-reading.
So, if i seem aloof, I'm probably with the characters in my head ;)
Easy Tiramisu Recipe
First I gotta give a shout out to Keran who passed the recipe on to me, which I now give to you ;)
1 pkg (10.75 ozs) frozen pound cake, thawed and cut into 9 slices
3/4 strong brewed coffee (room temperature)
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup chocolate flavored syrup
1 pkg (8 ozs) mascarpone cheese or cream cheese, softened
2 cups whipping (heavy) cream
2 bars (1.4 ozs each) chocolate covered toffee candy, chopped
Arrange cake slices in bottom of rectangular baking dish, 11x7x1 1/2inches, cutting cake slices if necessary to cover bottom of dish. Drizzle coffee over cake.
Beat sugar, chocolate syrup, and mascarpone cheese in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until smooth. Add whipping cream. Beat on medium speed until light and fluffy. Spread over cake. Sprinkle with candy.
Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, but no longer than 24 hours to set dessert and blend flavors.
Yield: 12 servings
The dessert will keep for longer than 24 hours. My family of three cannot eat a whole pan in a day, but we can get it polished off in a week for sure ;) It actually tastes better when the coffee can really sink into the cake :)

Eclipse Movie and Twilight Sound Track
Oh yeah, and I am using one of the tickers off the website with that news - i gotta be able to countdown to both of them!
Now, the Twilight Soundtrack....um.....you gotta buy it! I ordered a hard copy from Amazon and got it in the mail yesterday. I like EVERY song on it! That is super rare for any soundtrack. And my sweetie digs it as well (although, he was really wanting to hear Mute Math more than anything.) If you click the link above, you will be able to listen to some of the songs. Totally worth it.

Do I really need to see Kristen Stewart pumping gas? Um....NO!
For instance, I was looking up Kristen Stewart, Bella in Twilight. I was interested in what else she starred in, how old she was etc. I was shocked at how different she looks in real life since she was wearing contacts to make her eyes brown like Bella's (Kristen's are green). Anyway, I ran into a series of pictures of Kristen. She was pumping gas. Yep, so interesting eh? I just did it yesterday, what's the big deal.
As a huge fan of Bono, and member of fansites just for him (yeah, I know I need help) I have seen photos that almost angered me. Some photos were of him walking with his family - by the looks on everyone's face in the photo, they were not wanting their picture taken. I don't want to see that kind of stuff! I like Bono but I really don't want to see him unhappy. The other photo I remember seeing that angered me was of Bono jogging outside his house. Someone commented on how white his legs were. HELLO! He's Irish, you think those legs see sunlight very often? lol!
If i want to see a picture of a celeb, I want to see them when they expect it like at an event where there is a red carpet or posing for a magazine. I don't care if Bono pumps gas or if someone ate cake at lunch - I do that too. We all put our pants on one leg at a time. Just some of us have names that are very widely known - it doesn't mean they know you.
**steps off her soapbox**
Follow Peter Facinelli - Dr. Carlisle Cullen
Here's the whole reason for my blabbering - Peter has a bet going with Rob Defranco for the back of his Twilight chair. He need 500,000 followers before Friday.
So jump on the bandwagon and save the back of the chair for a fan (that's what he's going to do if he wins) - of course us Twilight crazies will appreciate it much more than Rob what's-his-name hehehe ;)
Peter poted a video on YouTube - so yep it really is him. And if you want to join the cause click here.
So hop to it! If you are still reading this you haven't clicked! Chop-Chop!

Bono, The Edge and Spider-man

No, this is not an Photoshoped image, this is the real deal!
If any of you know me and my sweetie, you know that I am freakish about U2 (especially Bono) and my sweetie loves Spider-man. When I first heard that Bono and The Edge were working on this project I pretty much did a double take. This poster represents the two things me and my sweetie pretty much worship.

Midnight Sun
Meyer apparently had some dumbass get a hold of her manuscript and it was released on the internet at different stages. She has put the writing of this on hold indefinitely (waaaaaah!!!!!)
She does have what she has so far on her website. I DLed and read it from there - unfortunately it only doesn't go beyond the point of Bella seeing Edward in her room for the first time and he tells her he's been coming there for months....of course we miss his perspective of the first kiss, which I thought would be super cool to read.
I am hoping that Meyer will some how recover from this violation. Nice that someone wants to make some $$$$ at the expense of MANY others who would love to read anything "new" in the land of Twilight.

Hello, my name is Sarah and I am a Twilight Addict.
The addiction began when my sweetie and I watched Twilight on BluRay (O....M....G....!). Two days later i was searching our public library for an audio version of the book so I could listen to it on a 6 hour trek to visit family. I got half way through and was thankful I brought my written copy of Twilight with me. I quickly devoured it and ended up stalking Walmart late at night to find the next book in the sagas.
This last week I started to feel like a vampire. Walking around with little sleep. I couldn't leave Edward and Bella not know what would happen next!
And my poor, poor sweetie. He is starting to wonder if I need to be committed for becoming so obsessed with this series. He is starting to understand as I tell him of other 30 something women have the same obsession - I am not alone (thank GOD!)

Five for Finn - PLEASE READ
♣ ♣ ♣ ♣ ♣ ♣ ♣ ♣ ♣ ♣ ♣ ♣ ♣ ♣ ♣ ♣ ♣ ♣ ♣ ♣ ♣ ♣ ♣ ♣ ♣ ♣ ♣ ♣ ♣ ♣ ♣ ♣ ♣ ♣
Hey everyone--
As some of you may know, Finn's fifth birthday would have been June 3rd of this year. As the date approaches, I find myself feeling more sad and missing my little guy more and more (as if that's possible, as I miss him every moment of every day). I could sit and cry--and believe me, I have--but what I really want to do is to celebrate the amazingness that was Finn and help other families too.
We are still in the process of getting tax-exempt status for "Finnz Fundz"--a foundation established in Finn's name to help other families of children with Cystic Fibrosis who are facing extended (longer than one month) hospital stays for treatment. In addition to our goal of achieving tax exempt status, we hope to eventually be able to help families of children with other illnesses as our funds grow and our ability to help increases.
As a way to honor Finn's fifth birthday, I have a special request for everyone who reads/receives this note--PLEASE donate a fin ($5) in honor of our Finn. If even 200 people donate $5 each, we will have $1,000 to distribute to families in need. Amazing!
Donations can be sent via paypal.com to:
finnzfundz@gmail.com
In addition to this special birthday fundraising drive, we are also looking to obtain "in-kind" donations to pass on to families--like gift cards from national retailers (dunkies, starbucks, target, walmart, etc). If any of you out there work for such companies or have connections, please let us know. We received many such cards and they were such a blessing!
Our email for the fund is: finnzfundz@gmail.com
A website will be soon to follow--a special thanks to Susanne and hubby for offering to design/host the website--I will be in touch soon!
Thanks to all for the amazing support you've given our family during our journey. It's been a long road, but I wouldn't have changed it--Finn was an amazing, special little person who truly brought joy to our lives.
Many thanks,
Kerry and Patrick
p.s. Please forward this to everyone on your friends list! Let's use the power of facebook/the internet for good!!!

Rachel Ray's Thai Lettuce Cups - YUM-O!
I tried this recipe tonight and it was SUPER good! I didn't do the lettuce cups. I roughly chopped romaine lettuce and put the chicken mixture on top of it. Click here is a link to the recipe in case you want to see photos or print it off for yourself. (oh, and of course we omitted the peanuts lol still tasted amazing!)
Thai Lettuce Cups
Ingredients
* 1 tablespoon EVOO – Extra Virgin Olive Oil
* 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into strips
* 1 red bell pepper, cut into to strips
* 1/4 cup sweet chili sauce
* 1/4 cup honey
* 2 iceberg lettuce heads, cut in quarters and leaves gently removed for cups
* 1/2 cup honey-roasted peanuts, chopped
* Juice of 1 lime
* 1 handful basil, chopped
Yields: 4 servings
Preparation
Place a large skillet over medium-high heat with 1 turn of the pan of EVOO, about 1 tablespoon. Season the chicken with salt and ground black pepper, and cook in the pan until golden brown on all sides.
Add in the red pepper, and cook until soft, about 3 minutes. Add in the chili sauce and honey, and reduce to coat the chicken.
To serve, lay the lettuce leaves out onto a platter then scoop some of the chicken mixture onto each leaf. Sprinkle with the chopped peanuts, lime juice and basil.
Magnificent
My analysis is that Magnificent refers to God. The song is about how we are God's creation and born to glorify Him.
Dictionary.com defines Magnificent as " noble; sublime" " (usually initial capital letter

Of course, this is only my insight. But the song now has a lot of meaning to me. In fact, I am thinking the word Magnificent might be my next tattoo.
Here are the lyrics of the song:
Magnificent
Magnificent
I was born
I was born to be with you
In this space and time
After that and ever after I haven't had a clue
Only to break rhyme
This foolishness can leave a heart black and blue
Only love, only love can leave such a mark
But only love, only love can heal such a scar
I was born
I was born to sing for you
I didn't have a choice but to lift you up
And sing whatever song you wanted me to
I give you back my voice
From the womb my first cry, it was a joyful noise ...
Only love, only love can leave such a mark
But only love, only love can heal such a scar
Justified till we die, you and I will magnify
The Magnificent
Magnificent
Only love, only love can leave such a mark
But only love, only love unites our hearts
Justified till we die, you and I will magnify
The Magnificent
Magnificent
Magnificent

Respect

Today I dropped my son off at preschool. I just happened to look at the car next to us and noticed a Hindu symbol hanging from the mirror. I immediately thought of the image I posted above. It is from U2's last concert tour. As you can see the word "Coexist" is spelled out with the Muslim, Jewish and Christian symbols. I have heard several Christians say that this display has shown that U2 is not believers and that all religions are one. I know that Bono is a follower of Christ (discusssion for another day). The word coexist means: " to exist separately or independently but peaceably" (from dictionary.com). I think that the symbols added to the word just make an even louder statment.
It made me think about how we really need to respect other people's beliefs, no matter what they are. Sure, as a Christian you can present them with the story of Jesus and salvation. But being forceful is the fast track to nowhere. I have seen so many times Christians trying to "argue" about their beliefs with someone who believes differently. I wonder how a Christian would feel if someone of a different faith was forcing their beliefs on them. When the shoe is on the other foot it can really make you view things differently.
We are all human. We were all created by God. We were given a mind to think and the ability to decide what we believe. We must have respect for each other.

Losing the Stiffness
I do believe that faith should be personal. It should be something that you believe with your whole heart, yet probably not be able to completely grasp.
For years I followed "rules" and tried to be someone that as of now I look back and wonder what the hell was I thinking! My view of things was that I was better than others because of what I believed and the way I was living my life. Little did I know that I was sheltering myself as well as pushing away those who might have been interested in learning more about Jesus from a non-judgmental and open to the fact that they might not believe the same as me.
What I find so funny is that it is always thought that when you get older that you get more set in your ways. For me I have found that I have let go of those ways and can see what it all looked like from the outside. It was all just silly to follow all the "rules" that churches, organizations or so called leaders told me I had to do in order to really live the Christian life. Most of that junk can not be found anywhere in the Bible...ok, maybe with some personal interpretation from those presenting this "way of life."
I still have my core beliefs. But I no longer think that I am above anyone in any way at all. We are all on the same playing field. We were all shown a "gift" that we can chose to accept or not. Forcing that gift on someone does not make them really want it...it will probably send them running in the other direction.
I'm baaaack!
So there is it!
(new look to follow soon, stay tuned!)

Lord of the Rings Online (LOTRO)
Jamie and I were able to get into the stress test this weekend. A select number of people were allowed in to push the servers and make sure everything is working ok. We played a little bit last night after Kian was in bed (and during the little bit of time that Jamie felt ok to be out of bed).
Jamie and I have played different MMORGs (Massively Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Games) since we have been dating. I have to say that LOTRO has been the easiest to navigate, has a GREAT tutorial and is BEAUTIFUL!
Today is the last day of the stress test. After that we have to wait for almost a month before we can get in and play for real! I cannot wait!

Trust
Does that mean I will be nice to you? Sure. Does that mean I will allow anything to go beyond what is on the surface? No. Does that mean I will hold you at arms length? You bet ya. Does that mean I will forget what you did? No way! I will always remember what you did and keep in the back of my mind as a reminder to myself in case I see signs of it happening again.
Harsh, yes I know, but I have been burned too many times. The main person was one I was born to and was supposed to be able to trust completely and be loved unconditionally by. That person can be sent a thank you note for creating me the way that I am in this respect. Often surrounding my emotional connection with others in steel bars and locks. And for those who have wronged me that means I pretty much throw away the key. That’s really the only way I can protect myself from it happening over and over again - I allowed it over and over again by the above mentioned “nobody” and I refuse to allow strangers or acquaintances to do the same.
Yes, I know this came out of no where – it’s just me thinking outloud so please don’t read into it

Moms don’t get sick days
One (without kids) might wonder what I am talking about. Maybe wondering what is so hard about caring for a child when you are sick? Well, my two year old has more energy in his little toe than I do in my whole body right now. My ears feel like they are going to explode anytime I bend over which makes playing more difficult. I’m not able to rest, relax nothing unless he is because I need to keep my eye on him to make sure he’s not doing something wrong or that he’s ok in general. He also needs to have a clean diaper, be fed, needs to be played with, needs hugs and kisses…ok some of those are easier than others but really when you should be concentrating on healing yourself you have to be mindful of another human being who needs you in order to survive.
I am only hoping that today is the worst of it and I will start getting better from here on out….and also having the hope that this virus somehow skips the rest of my family.

My Current Favorite Author
Then, right after my birthday, we headed on our monthly Costco run and there were 4 books written by Nicholas Sparks. They were all less than $8 each! I decided to scoop them up with some my birthday money. I have been slowly reading through them. I am trying to savor the words but I want to DEVOUR them. Sparks is a writer whose words grab you by the shoulders firmly and your mind demands that you keep reading!
I finished A Walk to Remember (have a Kleenex box for this one!) and watched the movie. Although the movie is loosely based on the novel I still felt it was really good - not to mention, Shane West is definitely not a hard actor to watch!
I just finished reading The Notebook. Very good book...slightly different from the movie in quite a few scenes (but then again what movie isn't!) but the book had me hanging on every last word again. Even though I knew the outcome of the story I was still captivated on how it would all come about.
So anyway, if you are looking for a good read pick up Sparks.

Conveniences of the Day
Sometimes I wonder how my mom did things when I was a kid…well maybe even before that! I was thinking the other day of what in the world did people do without a microwave! We were lucky and had a HUGE microwave in our house – I don’t remember a time when we didn’t have one…but I know that was one of the first microwaves out there so before that what the heck did mom’s do at lunch time! Man, talk about having to really time things out! Usually it takes me two minutes to put a meal together for my little guy weather it’s warming something up or it’s putting some bread and cheese in the toaster oven.
Then there are washable crayons and markers. At first I thought that I didn’t need to wash crayon out of my son’s clothes but he does get marks on the table with them when he really gets into coloring and goes off the page. For me it takes two seconds to run some warm water over a dishcloth and wipe it off – easy as pie!
It’s just amazing how many conveniences we have these days….touch tone phones connected through the internet for phone service and portable phones that fit in your pocket. Much has changed since the rotary dial phones my parents had in the house I grew up in and the bag phone my parents had in their car! I probably could go on for days with the things I remember as a kid and how much they have changed now….sometimes I wonder what we did without some of these inventions but apparently we all made it through a time before they existed :)

Desire to mend what was lost....
Why do people hold grudges? I mean, yeah, I can see when someone is wronged you – you shouldn’t forget it so you can protect yourself in the future from that person…but forgiveness should be extended. I have been on both sides of this coin…where I have grudges held against me and where I have had the opportunity to hold one myself. I’m not perfect, but I would like to think I don’t have any grudges against anyone. I have not forgotten some wrongs and won’t allow for things to ever go there again with those people. And I don’t throw the ill behavior in the face of that person over and over again.
Also, sometimes there is more than one side to a story. The current grudge I am thinking about is one held against me – one that is a very hurtful because it has made a relationship with this person near impossible. This said person has a made up story behind what happened and has decided to believe. They also haven’t even heard my side of the story because, well, they refused to even talk to me about it. I can’t even speak to this person without feeling attacked in a very personal way. The funny thing is that the event occurred about a year and a half ago and the hurt is still there like it was the day it happened.
Part of me wants to try to “kiss this person’s feet” so to speak and make things right. The other part of me doesn’t want to play that game because, well, I did nothing wrong and actually tried to call and apologize for what happened right when it happened. I’m not this person’s you-know-what list with no way of coming off unless they decide to extend some mercy my way. Although, I believe that’s very doubtful.
Man, why do I have to think about this junk today! Bleh….I wish it would just go away….

New view...
In the midst of crisis, say “thank you” because there is always something better on the other side. ~ Maya Angelo
This quote is so true….it has helped me to see how temporary a crisis can be and how things are so much better on the other side.

Houseidous, Get Behind Me!!
Yes, I said it….Houseidous. My beloved Dave Ramsey has coined that term as a disease people get when the move somewhere new. It’s a disease where you consider pulling out your credit card so you can get things you think would make your house look nice instead of saving up to buy it. I’ve had it before – although not too bad – but I fear it will rear its ugly head now that my husband and I have purchased our first home (ok, it’s in escrow right now, so God willing we will purchase it).
I already have a short list in my mind of things that need to be bought – some absolutely have to be purchased like gates for the stairs and shelving in the laundry/pantry area so Costco can fit in our house (or at least the portion of it I bring home monthly).
The credit cards will remain locked up in our safe – where they have been for years. I have had evil, evil thoughts of using them and confessed this sin to my husband already. Thankfully we don’t make any purchases without the other knowing – well, anything that is not put into one of our budget categories and thoughtfully spent on paper before the month even starts. This might sound anal to some, but it’s helped us pay off thousands of dollars in debt and saved us from really ever fighting about money (which, btw, is one of the top reasons people get divorced).
So, houseidous – get behind me!

My Space - Can I Hug You?!?!
Wow! I can’t believe how awesome My Space is becoming for an oldie like me…I say that because mainly it’s used by high school students…but more and more people my age and even older are using it to reconnect with friends from the past!
Some people I know online shared they had a page and then a friend that I knew from a few years ago and kept in touch with emailed me with updates to her blog on there and what not (Hi Season!)…so I decided to make my own page. I thought that there might be an off chance of reconnecting with some old friends. WELL, in the last few weeks I found a friend of mine from high school and just this last weekend I found a good friend of mine I went to college with and reconnected with a few others through him….I also did a search this morning to find two of my other close friends from college! I am just AMAZED at how many people I have been able to find! Some of them I have always wondered what they were up to! This is so very exciting!
Thank you My Space!!! XOXOXOXOX

One of the hardest jobs
The hardest yet most rewarding job I have ever had was becoming a mother. It requires no interview, no prerequisites (besides having a uterus), and comes with no instructions.
Before Kian was born I think I read every book I could get my hands on about pregnancy. I did the same with babies, but babies don’t fit into nice neat little boxes - like if he’s screaming he’s hungry….yeah, that could be one of the things he’s needing but it could also mean he’s bored, he’s tired, he’s wet….you get the picture. A lot of mothering is done by feel and by how well you know your baby. It takes time, using trial and error, and making mistakes – those mistakes are the hardest for a mom to take…believe I know first hand.
All three of us had a rocky start. When I was pregnant I thought I would have a med free birth – all natural. Well, it didn’t end up that way. Kian was stuck and I had to have a c-section. The road was bumpy one for us from the start – I almost died two days after giving birth, Kian had problems breastfeeding, and I soon found out that the crying he was doing all the time wasn’t “normal” after attending a class with other mom’s and newborns and getting a lot of stares because I wasn’t able to calm Kian down. Talk about feeling helpless! At least we found some things that worked for Kian but it was still pretty colicky or irritable for the first 7 months of his life (which is 4 months past the colic stage). Who knows why he was that way, but let me tell you that if I told someone that who only knew him today they would not believe me! Kian is a very happy toddler – well he has his moments but don’t we all.
Apart of being a mom is not only the caring and giving of yourself to this little person but it also means that you need to be willing to let them fly on their own. A few weeks ago Kian turned two and I have to say those two years have flown by so fast! A while ago I was putting away some of Kian’s clothes from when he was a baby and it was so hard to believe that he fit in them! I’m happy my little guy is growing up but at the same time I’m sad too!
Somedays cleaning and cooking calls my name and the day gets away from me. It’s those days that I realize I haven’t spent a lot of time with Kian….it’s also those days that I need to remind myself that two-years-old only happens once in his lifetime and I need to cherish every moment. No one will remember that my kitchen was clean on May 19, 2006 but I know that I will remember the laughter and fun me and Kian had on that day – I think I choose Kian over my dirty kitchen :)

Helpful Tip of the Day:
Strawberries lose their flavor if they are left in water – they absorb it! Make sure our rinse time is not long as well and pat them dry. Enjoy the full flavor of your strawberries this spring ;)

For the Ladies :)
Eleven people were hanging on a rope under a helicopter, ten men and one woman. The rope was not strong enough to carry them all, so they decided that one had to leave, because otherwise they were all going to fall. They weren't able to name that person, until the woman gave a very touching speech. She said that she would voluntarily let go of the rope, because, as a woman, she was used to giving up everything for her husband and kids, or for men in general, and was used to always making sacrifices with little in return. As soon as she finished her speech, all the men started clapping their hands.....

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger
Recently I have been thinking back on a time in my life that was not so fun. It was a time where I felt I didn’t fit in at all. I also had pressure from a “mentor” of sorts to basically my square self fit into a round hole…as we all know that doesn’t work. Let me tell you, I tried and tired very hard to be a round peg. At first I thought that is what I was supposed to do. After a while I realized that God didn’t make me round, he made me square for a reason! To my “mentor” I looked like I was rebelling but in reality I was doing what I thought was right for me and for the girls I was “mentoring.”
I spent two years under the pressure and label of not being good enough and it took its toll. I was trying so hard to not be who I really was. I was told that I needed to “go outside my comfort zone” when honestly my personality didn’t reach the lengths that these people wanted from me. Some thought that was an excuse for me to not participate in some activities…some really did thing that I needed to “comfort zone” when in reality every day I lived outside my comfort zone and pushed the boundaries of what I was capable of. When you try to hard to be someone you aren’t I think it shows very clearly to those you are talking to. For me personally I can see right through those people so I am sure that others could see through my guise.
When I think about that time I just want to forget it. I want to forget the pain of not being accepted for who I was. I want to forget all the people I tried to befriend or thought I was friends with and found out several years later that they could care less. The people that I know care I am in touch with (just incase some of you are reading this!) and I cherish the times that we spent together and all the things we went through. Some of you I couldn’t have gotten through this time without your kindness and friendship!
Ok, enough of that tangent… Really what I wanted to say that even though I want to forget that pain I learned so much about myself at that time. At the end of my time of those two years I met my husband. I also believe that the experience helped me in dealing with being a “gaming wife” with all the late hours, sudden moves and craziness that comes with this odd sort of job.
Every moment in our lives shapes us into who we are. Sometimes those moments are hard, scary, wonderful, beautiful…but we always walk away with something more than when we arrived in that situation.

My Points – Earn money by just Clicking your Mouse!
As most of you know, I am pretty much the Coupon Queen so I try to save a few bucks where ever I can...and for doing shopping over the internet and for clicking and viewing a webpage I earn points to redeem for gift cards!
How it works is SO simple! When you sign up you tell My Points the things you are interested in. They send you emails where you just click on the red button and get 5 points just for looking! Sometimes you can sign up for a newsletter or to get emails about deals from certain places and get a bonus 25-50 points. Also, from time to time they will send you emails with surveys. They don’t take a lot of time to fill out and you get a good amount of points for doing those as well.
Also, if you buy anything from any of the merchants associated with my points (Target, ebay, etc) go through the My Points website first and you will earn a certain amount per dollar that you spend! I shop on ebay a lot so I get a good amount of points from there. I also bought an Entertainment book through the website which helps me save EVEN more throughout the year and gave me a good chunk of points! I have only been signed up since November and I already have enough to get a $20 gift card to Toys R Us! Right now I am saving my points so I can get a few cards at once to use around Christmas time :)
If you are interested in signing up, please let me know and I will send you an invite (I’ll get points hehe). It’s easy money...really :)

Oprah’s Show on Debt – SHOCKING!
One of the MOST shocking things I heard on that show was that 70% of Americans have credit card debt (or maybe it was debt in general over a certain amount – I can’t remember) but I was floored and so was Oprah lol! My husband and I are among those who are in CC debt but we won’t be there for long! In the next few months it will be completely gone and we will start tackling some of my husband’s student loans.
Honestly, we thought we would NEVER get out of the hole that we were in when we were first married almost 4 years ago. It wasn’t until we were married for about 6 months that my husband was introduced to Dave Ramsey. A few months after that we saved up for the fee to take one of his classes called Financial Peace University and became graduates. It has taken us about 3 years and we will finally wave bye-bye to all our CC debt and be well on our way to financial freedom :)
When I watched Oprah’s show, I was reminded of Dave Ramsey and a lot of the suggestions they made on the show are ones that Dave himself advocates. Honestly, we owe Dave Ramsey our lives!!!! He has changed everything for us completely! When we get our tax return instead of spending it we put it on debt – yes I know people think we are weird but honestly I don’t care! That money is money we already spent and owe on – we need to get out from under it.
If you want to know more about Dave Ramsey, his plan, listen to this show or look up if there is a FPU near you go to his website at www.daveramsey.com

Rudeness episode on 20/20
Well, they had a part where someone was running little tests on people to see what they would say to a rude comment she would make. She was in the south and asked a lady, “What do you think of that guy that used to work for you last year?” The lady replied, “I don’t know him very well.” The tester said, “I thought he was a jerk.” The southern lady replied, “That’s what I said.” I was FLOORED to say the least! So was the tester! So the tester went to North Carolina and asked, “What would you say if someone said ‘I don’t know him very well’ about someone?” He said, “That would mean he’s a good for nothing.”
WHAT?!?!??!?! Ok, please, can someone get me a dictionary or a guide on how to speak southern! lol Apparently the rest of us need to be taught because we are clueless!
I honestly don’t think I am a rude person. Although, when push comes to shove, I will be completely honest with people. I am not one for beating around the bush. I can tell it like it is – and honestly, I would rather have people do that for me too. It’s hard to play a game of, what do they really mean or what are they trying to say? Sometimes I will have my husband step in to “translate” because I want to make sure that I am really getting what is behind a certain statement.
To all my Southern friends and family members, please forgive me for being “rude.” I never meant anything by it, I am just ignorant to southern ways. (to be blunt)

Trust your gut
Sometimes you want to give a person the benefit of the doubt. Or maybe it is that you are just so lonely that having a conversation; meaningless banter about ebay auctions and the mail postage rate going up. Through months and months of banter my gut instinct started to prove true about this person right before Christmas. Yet, I decided to give her the benefit of the doubt once again, but this time with my guard up. Well, tonight was the last straw…
Wow, do I wish I would have listened to my gut a LONG time ago. Maybe this wouldn’t hurt as bad then as it does now.
ALWAYS trust your gut. Most times than not, it is right.

Little known facts about Boy

Well, believe it or not, it was turned down... Why you ask? Because it was considered pornographic! (the world has changed a lot!). U2 was wanting to show the innocence of a Boy. I know that a lot of the album had songs where Bono talked about the death of his mother and how hard it was to overcome it at the age of nine. Mainly, the song "Boy" on that album is about that.
The boy in the photo is actually a brother of one of Bono's best friends (Guggi)
Here it he cover of the album as you could buy it in a store today. This is the cover on my of the album:

Oddly enough, if you go to U2's website and look under their albums you will see the photo of the Boy and not this ugly cover...(sorry guys but I do like the boy better lol)
In 1983, the same boy in the photo of "Boy" posed for the cover of "War":

Funny thing is, the kid was actually in a fight that day and that cut on his head is real! I can't remember the entire story - if they planned to use in him the photo shoot or not - but that is the photo they decided to go with.
Anyway, that's your education on U2 for the day hehe ;)

Update on “My Depressing and Bad Week (and it’s only Tuesday)” post
I have to say that I sure was stuck in a rut that day but I realized that I do use my degree more than I think. I do some work for my mother-in-law and it requires that I use skills that I picked up in college – without that knowledge they would have no one to take care of those things or have to hire someone out for the work (I’m a lot cheaper…believe me!)
Anyway, I just wanted that little update to put out there
You're the Man Now, Dog!
http://bushbono.ytmnd.com/
The above link is to something someone posted on the website called “ytmnd” standing for “you’re the man now dog” which is from a line in a movie that Sean Connery says. Anyway, the site has become a place where people doctor up photos, audio and video and put them on here. Some are funny...some leave you in awe...some a just weird or gross. Well, I did a search on that website for Bono and found the above link. The photo doesn’t change but the audio is Pres Bush saying the ENTIRE song of Sunday Bloody Sunday! It is really well done! I actually listened to the whole thing and they even add in the things that Bono will sing when he performs the song live! This person must have a lot of time on their hands but it sure is well done!
Also, on an odd side note….isn’t it amazing that the President of the United States meets with Bono IN the Oval Office!!! I mean, the places and people Bono has seen and spoke to on behalf of those suffering from poverty and AIDS….what a man :)

Ghost in Sunnyvale Toys R Us?!?!?!
I was going through some interesting facts on and came accross the article that the Toys R Us in Sunnyvale, CA is haunted LOL I have to say I have been in that store many times and haven't seen or heard or smelled anything (although I am not sure I have been down Asile 15c or whatever it is). I guess I need to ask my mom if she saw anything when we went shopping for Kian's Christmas gifts when she was here lol!
I just thought it was something odd to share....guess I won't be using the bathroom alone either since Johan follows women in there! LOL!
