Bono named as one of Time's People of the Year!

Contgrats to the B-Man for making Time's People of the Year! He has worked effortlessly on getting poverty knocked out in Jubilee 2000, the One Campaign of getting a bunch of organizations that help others in different ways to unite, on up to getting meds for people suffering with AIDS to African countries....I could go on, and on, and on, and on lol

The man didn't get the Nobel Peace Prize this year (even though he this year was one of sevreal nominations he has had for it). He has also been said to say that the efforts he has made for poverty and AIDS won't be remembered 200 years from now but his music will...I can only pray that he will still be known for the amazing job he's doing using his celebrity status to get things done!

Way to go Bono!

My depressing and bad week (and it's only Tuesday)

Have you ever had one of those days where just nothing seems to go right? Well, that is the kind of week I have been having. I looked at my flip calendar today and was shocked to see that it was only Tuesday GRRRRRR! I hope I can make it! With the kind of mood I have been in lately I am hoping and praying that things can only get better.

Are you wondering what the deal is? Let me ask you this, have ever had to care for a 19 month old who wants to touch EVERYTHING in the store so you basically have to shop like you are on a shopping spree…just knocking things into your cart as you go down the isle at record speed. Oh and there is the whole testing thing of “let’s see how many times I can do this even though I have been told A MILLION times.” Yeah, today has been one of those days.

Ah yes and there is the ever lovely reminder of the very expensive piece of paper that I think is still at my mother’s house…my college diploma (yeah, pretty sad that I have no clue where it is). I worked so hard for that thing! I worked my tail off every summer just so I didn’t have to have any student loan debt – which I did accomplish thanks to my father (although he pretty much won’t let me forget that he actually helped me with one thing in my life). And now what do I have to show for it? An expensive piece of paper that collects dust and has quickly been forgotten (hence not knowing where it is).

Funny thing is that I have a Bachelors of Arts in Print Journalism: Editing and Design although no one would ever know that as I walk down the isles of Target saying “no touch” and feeding my kid toddler cookies to distract him from everything else in the store.

Yeah, being a stay at home mom doesn’t pay much (well it pays nothing monetarily) and there are bad days but there are so many good ones too. I’m hanging on to those good moments and waiting for the next one to happen to brighten my day.

To society I might seem like a waste – a waste of money and time spent on an education that probably won’t ever be used. Today my skills with debunking run on sentences and cropping photos have been pushed aside to change poopy diapers, feed a kid who throws food and vacuum. (not a true list of accomplishments but at least I got the vacuum out!) To be honest, I’m not so worthless after all…at least not to the 19 month old in the other room and to my husband who will come home to a nicely cooked meal. Maybe tomorrow I can teach my son when to use a comma and when not to – until then this degree is under wraps.

U2's new video

Well, U2 has a new video and it is AWESOME! It's so complex but so simple at the same time! Not to mention there are some great shots of all the guys with just a plain white background - it's brilliant :)

You can watch a bit of the video here: Although you can't see the whole thing unless you subscribe to u2.com (yes I am a subscriber lol I'm that crazy about them lol)

My Love Hate Relationship with.....

my George Foreman Grill. Yes, I love it because I can make a healthy meal for me and Jamie and quick (I can throw on some FROZEN boneless, skinless chicken breasts - sprinkle on some seasoning and wahlah dinner is served lol). Well, even thought it's fast it is a PAIN in the you know what to clean!

Last night I made a meal for us using the grill and I hate, hate, hate cleaning it! I was tempted to just throw it away! Not to mention the plates have seen better days...it needs to be retired just like Foreman himself ;)

This Christmas I plan to upgrade with my Christmas money to the mother of all George Foreman Grills...the plates are removable and you can set the tempurature! I am so excited to get it! Not to mention - my other grill was so small it could barely fit two chicken breasts on it! I can't wait for Christmas! Then I can say adios, daspidanya, goodbye to my little grill! :)

Today is the first day of the last year of my 20’s. I am officially tagged as an old lady by everyone under 21. Today I turn 29 and next year I will be 29 again.

You know what just poped in my head? The song we sung in choir for someone who had a birthday - it's sang in dark tone:

Happy birthday UH (pound your chest once )
Happy birthday UH (pound your chest once )

Misery and deep despair
People dieing everywhere

Happy birthday UH (pound your chest once )
Happy birthday UH (pound your chest once )

HAVE A NICE DAY!

My Birthday Gift....Early!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If any of you know my husband you know that he can't wait to open gifts and he can't wait to give them. It's almost as if they are burning holes in his pockets and he has to get them out right away! I have been telling him for several days that I don't want to open it until my actual birthday....

Well, tonight I told him that I would open it. He told me that he was "going out on a limb with this one and you might get mad so you might want to have Kian awake when you open it." So, of course I am intrigued...AND I caved LOL

So, I open up the box and there is a camping pillow in it! He says, "I found your pillow!" I was like...um....thanks? lol He said it's under that. So I lifted it up and it was a card. I thought, ok, maybe he got me a massage like he did for Mother's Day. I started to read the card and opened it up and slowly something fell out of it....it said "Ticketmaster" I started to GASP! I wanted to read the card but I couldn't help myself...I looked inside and saw "U2 - VERTIGO" written on the tickets and LOST IT!!!!!! I mean, I seriously broke into tears!!!!

I had the ability to prebuy tickets but the company my husband worked for was shutting its doors and we had no idea where we would be so I couldn't buy them :( I have been looking at tickets on ebay but they were just a little pricey :( (their concerts are sold out worldwide btw) So, I pretty much came to gripes with the fact that I wouldn't see U2 this tour when I usually see them TWICE every tour I have been to since 1997.

So, this November 9th Jamie and I will be rocking out to U2 in Oakland!!!! I am so stoked! I still need to be pinched to know for sure that we are going!!!!! These tickets were seriously the only thing I REALLY wanted and I GOT THEM! Wow! It's still unreal!

Dancing with my Little Man

We have a Tivo and our house and the lovely thing about Tivo is that it will keep shows on there as long as you want them.

Well, back in May U2 was on Good Morning America and they allowed cameras to film one of their shows in Chicago (actually it was on Bono's birthday which is May 10th). I have kept this show on there for a long time and never finished watching it... Why you might ask? Well, because it makes me sad...I won't be seeing my boys this year :(

You see, I was one of those people with a code to be able to buy tickets before they were really for sale. We could have had prime seats! BUT at the time the presale was going on my husband was looking for a different job (the business he worked for at the time was closing down) and we seriously had no idea where we would be. So, my code still even sits in my U2.com account waiting to be used....but never will be.

Yesterday my son was dancing and I thought we could dance together as I played the rest of the Tivoed show...he enjoyed it...so did I, but with sadness....

Yeah, I know I am pretty pathetic! lol! But this is the first time I that I have not seen them TWICE on the same tour since 1998....

U2's shows all over the world are sold out and have been for quite some time...I can only hope and pray that in a few years they will come out and tour again... I don't see them stopping any time soon - they just love the road too much.

Ode to my Microwave

Oh you’re so fast
You cook things so well

What would I do without you?
I’m sure you can tell

You warm up my coffee,
You heat up our food

You even cook snacks
When I’m in the mood

Always ready to go
So dependable you are

Now if you could fold laundry
That would make you a star!

Mother or ED? Thoughts of a SAHM

For some reason I thought that becoming a SAHM would free me up to do a lot of things WRONG! LOL! I couldn't have been more wrong! I do actually do some work from home but when I am supposed to be relaxing, that is what I am doing...work....

Oh and then there are the endless loads of laundry (that unfortunately does not fold itself), the bathroom needs to be cleaned again even though I thought I just did it, dishes, sippy cups to prepare, dirty diapers to change....oh and did I eat breakfast today....I can't remember LOL My life actually got so much busier when my son came along. I love him to pieces but I never realized how much work a kid was until I had one!

Recently I have been thinking that Webster's Dictionary needs to have a photo of a mother next to the word "selfless" because that ultimately is what "mother" means.

Sometimes that means that mom comes last...she eats last, goes to bed last, goes potty last....sometimes that's frustrating but I would never put my needs over my son's....and I think any other true Mother out there would agree with me.

Then there are mothers who need to have their photo put next to the word "selfish." Those are the mothers that leave their kid asleep in their crib while they go out and party or go for a jog. These "mothers" think of their needs and desires above their child's safety, which is more detrimental than thinking of your child's needs before your own. Or those who purposefully get pregnant knowing full well that they are putting their life in danger...putting their child who is here now at risk of not having a mother just so she can birth another one from her body. There are also "mothers" who really don't care about what their child's desires or needs are...they only look at what theirs are and try to meet them at any cost...

I think that those "mothers" do not deserve the title of Mother...they need to be called something else. Mother, Mom, Mama, Mommy....those are all names meant for those who have earned the title. Maybe they just need to be called "Egg Donor" after all that is all the work they want to put into their babies. On my message boards they call "deadbeat dads" SD's (Sperm Donors) so I think those ladies are ED's...

Being a Mother is a choice you make, not to just carry the baby to term and give birth but it something you do for...well....the rest of the child's life. An ED has made the choice to give birth and that's about it...

It makes me so sad when I hear about children living with ED's....I wonder how anyone could treat a child in that manner....how they could endanger them or view them as just being in the way. Being a Mother is not easy by any means and yeah there have been days that I thought about putting my son up for auction on ebay (that is a joke btw!), but I would never, ever, ever endanger my son in any way, shape or form. How could anyone want to hurt or abandon someone who is so innocent, trusting and fully of unconditional love...that thought even wells my eyes with tears.

Congratulations to those who are Mothers. Stay strong ladies...the day is not yet over...and it all will begin again tomorrow but we wake up to the precious gift of our children's beautiful smiles, hugs and kisses....nothing could be more precious than our children.

25 Ways U2 Has Changed the World

Although I did not write this, I felt it was worthy of posting. I think that this writer's insight into how U2 has made their stage a pulpit for the Christian faith without bullying others. Oddly enough I am sure there are many fans out there that are not Christians but recite Bible verses as they sing the song that Bono has composed. The Word is getting out....gosh, I think Jesus would be proud of them (even though I am sure many strict Christians would disagree and look down on them). As you can tell, I am proud of my boys...

U2 might just be the most important band in the galaxy.

Compared with its contemporaries, the Irish quartet doesn't have as many No. 1 singles as Michael Jackson. It hasn't been chronicled in the tabloids quite as exhaustively as Madonna. Bono and friends, who return to the Bradley Center for a sold-out show Sunday, haven't even spawned countless sound-alikes.And yet, in the 25 years since the release of its atmospheric debut album Boy, U2 has made a larger and arguably more lasting impact than any of its peers, not just in pop music, but in pop culture, politics and beyond. The band's influence has often been more subtle than shouted -- more Edge than Bono, if you will -- but its place in history as a catalyst on many fronts is undeniable.

Don't believe us? Consider these 25 ways U2 has changed the world:

U2 has used its powers for good. A story in Sunday's The New York Times Magazine declared Bono "the most politically effective figure in the recent history of popular culture," but it's not just the feisty front man dedicating himself to activism. He just happens to have the highest profile -- and biggest mouth -- among the four band members. From the politically charged "Sunday Bloody Sunday" to the band's more recent support, onstage and off, for the Burmese democracy movement, U2 has never shied from calling attention to global trouble spots.

U2 made wraparound shades so cool even the pope wanted them. In his memoir Bono: In Conversation with Michka Assayas (2005, Riverhead)

U2's front man recalled a meeting with the late Pope John Paul II during which the pontiff seemed smitten with the Irishman's famous sunglasses.

"He kept looking at them in my hand, so I offered them to him...Not only did he put them on, he smiled the wickedest grin you could ever imagine," Bono recalled.

U2 reminded us that you don't have to shock people to get noticed. Arriving on the music scene at a time when some peers were carving words into their chests with razors, the band's music spoke louder than cheap stunts -- and has survived, while many a shock rocker disappeared into oblivion.

U2 made Christian rock hip. Until U2 came along, overtly Christian acts were dismissed as cheesy or just plain preachy by many mainstream rock fans. From the start, however, U2's three Christian members have been open about their faith without using the stage as a bully pulpit.

U2 made it OK to not hope you die before you get old. Rock spent years mired in the clichés of hedonistic excess, delusions of eternal youth and the occasional bout of nihilism before U2 conquered the world celebrating life even as it acknowledged its hard realities.

U2 brought American roots music to a new generation. For many music fans who grew up listening to mainstream radio and watching MTV in the '80s, music history started with Journey and ended with MC Hammer.

U2's exploration of the roots of rock 'n' roll, however, in songs such as "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For," and the band's embrace of elders such as Johnny Cash and B.B. King, helped introduce millions of young ears to the rich music of generations past.

U2 proved you can make it in the music industry without getting made by the music industry. Whether exploring experimental terrain as they did on 1997's Pop or stripping emotions bare in a minimalist lament such as "Running to Stand Still," U2 has always ignored the trends and stayed true to its own collective musical vision, wherever it led them. U2 made irony-free mullets hip, at least for a little while (see Bono, circa 1984's The Unforgettable Fire.).

U2 proved band monogamy is possible. Many musicians liken being in a band to being in a marriage -- only with a much higher divorce rate. For nearly 30 years, U2 has been singer Bono, guitarist Edge, drummer Larry Mullen Jr. and bassist Adam Clayton, no more, no less, no substitutions. There have been disagreements, but the quartet always found a way to work out its differences

U2 showed you're never too big to say you're sorry. A technical snafu deprived fan club members of a promised exclusive online presale for the first leg of the band's current world tour. Many bands would have ignored the glitch, but the usually microphone-shy Mullen elbowed Bono aside at the Grammys in February to apologize publicly for the error.

U2 put rock stars on equal footing with world leaders. Much like political ally and musical contemporary Bob Geldof, Bono doesn't merely spout a sound bite fed to him by a publicist. The singer can cite statistics and unspool the intricacies of multilateral aid. As a result, Bono's causes are taken more seriously than those of other celebrities. Consider widespread rumors last year that the diminutive Irishman might be named head of the World Bank, or media coverage of Bono's frank discussions with the likes of U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

Then there are headlines such as that of a June 9 story in the EU Reporter: "Irish rock star Bono told EU Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso that 'Europe must re-describe itself.' "

For the record, according to the article, "Barroso responded by quoting a U2 song...'Don't worry baby. It's gonna be alright.'

U2 set an example for other celebrities by keeping private lives private. Instead of selling their wedding photos to the tabloids, members are vigilant about protecting their kin -- including raising a legal furor over a newspaper in Ireland reporting on the illness of a family member earlier this year.

U2 affirmed that rock stars could be larger than life without overdoses, trashed hotel rooms and brawls with paparazzi.

U2 showed how to make a comeback. The band's more excessive stage shows and experimental music alienated a sizable chunk of its fan base in the late '90s. Instead of desperately wooing them back by regurgitating old music, U2 simply moved in a new direction, one that paired Edge's cool sonic experimentation with Bono at his warmest and most human on 2001's brilliant All That You Can't Leave Behind.

U2 forever dispelled the gross misconception that Irish music was a bunch of guys with fiddles lamenting some boy named Danny.

U2 gave other bands a template for teamwork. Although Edge and Bono do the bulk of writing for the band and could claim additional royalties, songs are credited to the band as a whole. Decisions on everything from Web site design to the evening's set list are made democratically by all four members.

U2 is proof that less is more. More backbone than mere background, drummer Mullen and bassist Clayton are one of rock's sturdiest rhythm sections. The pair's understatement is the perfect foil to Edge's out-there guitar and Bono's occasional bouts of unhinged grandstanding.

U2 is proof that excess has its time and place. Bono wouldn't be quite so, well, bono, without his throat-shredding wails of emotion, fondness for rambling ad libs and passion for the spotlight. Edge never met an effects pedal he didn't lik -- though the guitarist layers his sonic textures more judiciously than many of his noodle-happy peers. (Eddie Van Halen at the Bradley Center last November? Dude, we still haven't forgotten -- or forgiven.)

U2 made rock global. Other bands, notably the Clash, injected international awareness into their music, but few did it as expansively as U2. The band has addressed trade policies, human rights, terrorism and socioeconomic failings of governments big and small, all without the shrillness of some other politically minded bands

U2 gave concert-goers a reason to show up early. Throughout its career, the band has had a knack for choosing talented, sometimes controversial opening acts. The outspoken Kanye West is slated for shows in December, and the intense Dashboard Confessional opens Sunday's show at the Bradley Center.

U2 made it OK to thumb your nose at the pressure to follow fashion. We're sure that if we broke into Larry's closet, we'd find 10 white T-shirts, five pairs of worn jeans, one black leather motorcycle jacket and a bottle of hair gel. Bono's closet -- well, that's a different matter.

U2 elevated pop by refusing to dumb it down. It's easier -- and less risky -- to write catchy songs about partying than to craft emotional yet melodic anthems that put forth a political position that may alienate fans who disagree. U2 doesn't do easy.

U2 reminded us that do-gooders can -- and should -- laugh at themselves. As Bono joked in a 2001 Spin interview, "I've been insufferable before, and I will be again!"

U2 keeps surprising us. Whether it's a spin-off project featuring opera legend Luciano Pavarotti or breaking into a killer cover of ABBA's "Dancing Queen," U2 intrigues us by refusing to play by any other rules than its own

U2 still wants to change the world, and its ambition and optimism continue to inspire others. In an interview with the Chicago Sun-Times in May, Mullen said: "I don't want to be in a band that's treading water...If that's not possible, then we will stop."
